Dates are: Jan 28, 1pm-3pm Feb 10, 2pm-3pm A cold water huli is a different animal than a warm water huli. The club is encouraging all FCRCC OC1 users to do an annual cold water huli. At some point in the future, this may become mandatory if using club equipment. Guaranteed it will be cold!
The course is intended for anyone interested in entry level coaching. Some of the material covered in the course includes; safety, ethics in coaching, coach-athlete communication, basic dragon boat technique, basic physiological requirements of dragon boat racing, race planning, practice planning, etc… Certification candidates will be required to successfully complete a written assignment and hold a small craft operator’s license before they are fully certified. If you missed the orientation for the new Tempest OC2, there will be one more date to attend. Date: Sunday February 11, 2018 Time: 8:30 am You must attend these orientations in order to be allowed to go out in the OC2. Dueling Hearts Race – February 12, 2018 Dueling Hearts is a relay race for all human powered watercrafts with either a 18 Km long course or 9 Km short course. You and your relay partner(s) will do either 4 – 4.5 Km laps for the long course or 2 – 4.5 Km laps for the short course on False Creek from Alder Bay to Science World and back. This course will ensure your steersperson has the skills required to confidently steer races. This 5 hour course features: low instructor : participant ratio in-class theory and on-water application highly skilled, experienced and knowledgeable facilitators. Skills taught, practiced and tested will include: crew commands and vocabulary forward and reverse steering left and right turns arriving and departing docks race situations Volunteer paddlers will be utilized whenever possible to ensure maximum experience at the helm.
