FCRCC Annual General Meeting

Save the date for the FCRCC Annual General meeting When:  Friday, October 19, 2018 Where:  False Creek Community Centre – Lind Hall Time:  6pm to 9 pm The FCRCC Annual General meeting will take place on October 19th.  This year we will be presenting our new Bylaws for review and acceptance.  Among other items, we will be voting on club fees as well as electing the 2019 Executive.  Plan to attend.

Dragon Boat Canada Novice Steersperson Accreditation course

Dragon Boat Canada Novice Steersperson Accreditation Course This course will ensure your steersperson has the skills required to confidently steer races. This 5 hour course features: low instructor: participant ratio in-class theory and on-water application highly skilled, experienced and knowledgeable facilitators. Skills taught, practiced and tested will include: crew commands and vocabulary forward and reverse steering left and right turns arriving and departing docks race situations. Novice OC6 Steering Course

When: October 21, 2018 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Novice OC-6 Steering Course  This course is designed for paddlers who would like to learn how to steer an outrigger canoe in a safe and supportive environment. The course starts with a classroom session that will cover the basics of steering including the roles and responsibilities of seat 6, communication, reading the water/tides and basics of the steering strokes. This is followed by time on the water in the steering seat under the guidance of an experienced steersperson. No previous OC-6 steering experience necessary. Fall into Outrigger Introduction Days

When: September 23, 2018 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Fall into Outrigger with FCRCC’s Outrigger Intro Days Each session will comprise two 3 hour practices aimed at dragon boaters, flatwater paddlers and canoers wanting to expand their paddling repertoire.  Experienced outrigger paddlers and coaches will take you through outrigger paddling technique, on water practices, canoe handling and care, and introduce you to Hawaiian culture.  Come down and give it a try.  Mahalo! DBC Coaching Community Dragon Boat

When: September 30, 2018 all-day

DBC Coaching Community Dragon Boat   The course is intended for anyone interested in entry level coaching. Some of the material covered in the course includes; safety, ethics in coaching, coach-athlete communication, basic dragon boat technique, basic physiological requirements of dragon boat racing, race planning, practice planning, etc… Certification candidates will be required to successfully complete a written assignment and hold a small craft operator’s license before they are fully certified.   Location: FCRCC Dates:  September 30, 2018 Time:  9:00 am – 4:00 pm Cost: $200 plus GST Registration:

Burrard compound clean up – April 29, 2018

When: April 29, 2018 @ 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Where: Burrard Compound Spring Cleanup, Whyte Avenue

OC-1 Orientation – Spring/Summer

When: May 6, 2018 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Where: OC1 Orientation, 1318 Cartwright – Granville Island

All paddlers using the OC-1 and other club equipment must be individual members of the False Creek Racing Canoe Club and must undergo a formal orientation to the club equipment. They must have club photo id to participate. Novice OC6 Outrigger – Its back for 2018!

When: May 2, 2018 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Where: Burrard Compound, Whyte Avenue

This is a co-ed program open to adults of all ages, and is coached by experienced FCRCC outrigger paddlers. Through this program, you will learn outrigger paddling technique (no paddling experience necessary), develop paddling fitness and be introduced to Hawaiian culture. Practices are held Mondays and Wednesday from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, leaving from the FCRCC Burrard site.  Practices are twice each week for 4 weeks. Introduction to Dragon Boat – Race Ready
