Club small boat access – booking required

August 30, 2020 @ 6:00 am – 8:00 pm

Hello members!
The reservation system will start opening for next week’s bookings in the morning at around 10:00am: FCRCC Small Boat Reservation System.
Notes for this week:
  • Cold Weather Dock Closures – This past weekend saw temperatures dipping down to low single digit overnight causing the docks to be extremely icy for the morning reservations. We had to temporarily close the docks until the De-Icer and the sun had a chance to thaw the docks out before we were able to resume the release of boats going out. While we try to be vigilant with notifying members of dock closures and reservation cancellations, there will be days and times when these decisions cannot be made until much closer to the start of booking times. Please note that if you make bookings into the early or late hours where temperature changes can cause iciness on the dock, there may be a risk that your reservations may be cancelled at the last moment.
  • Carrying Boats to/from Docks – For the safety of our members and our equipment, kindly note the order of how equipment should be brought to and from the docks: Iako and Ama, then boat. The reverse order should take place when bringing the boat back to the cleaning area. This allows you to test the safety of the dock without a heavy piece of equipment on your shoulders.
If you have any questions, have a suggestion or are having trouble with the system, please email us at and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
Have a great paddle!

** NOTE**  New Policy on wearing gloves

Gloves need to be off and stay off until you get in the boat. You need to spray your bare hands with the hand sanitizer (before entering the compound at Burrard and before entering the shed at Alder Bay) and use bare hands to move the boats to the water. You can put gloves on to paddle and then the gloves come off when returning to dock.

Thank you for your patience as we developed a policy to allow access to the club small boats.

Our policy is a work in progress as we see what works and what doesn’t.  Our goal is to offer you as much access as possible to our fleet while adhering to Provincial directives. BC is continuing to reduce Community transmission. We have been asked to remain diligent in delivering access to our boats in a “safe” manner. This will take buy in from each of us.

Watch your emails, we will send all policy changes to you in a timely fashion. Boat booking schedule will be released weekly and will run from Saturday to Friday.

Your paddling experience will be different with the new safety protocols. Please read through the attached Club Programming policy so you know what to expect before you head to Alder Bay. Here are a few questions to ask yourself as you plan your paddling time:

  • Did you reserve your boat and timeslot?
  • Do you know where your club membership card is?
  • Do you have your own paddle and Transport Canada approved PFD?
  • Have you taken the appropriate orientation for the boat you want to use?

Something else to consider:

  • Has your technique suffered over the winter or last two months?
  • Are you learning to paddle a different boat type?

We have started our small boat coached sessions for all skill levels .  Watch for course announcements via email or the website.

See you on the dock and the water,

FCRCC Executive
