Adult Learn to Compete (Advanced fundamentals)

With the acquired balance and fundamentals from Intro to Racing, Learn to Compete focuses on stroke refinement so that paddlers can start building up their boat speed and stroke efficiency on the water.

Goals for the course include

  • Reviewing equipment care and handling
  • Refining balance
  • Refining proper paddling positioning
  • Refining boat control
  • Refining stroke technique
  • Paddling outside of Alder Bay in a sprint boat
  • Improved paddling fitness
  • Participate in a regattas

Prerequisites

  • Must be a full member of the FCRCC club (minimum, Small Boats Membership).  Please see Individual Membership for details on getting your membership.
  • Intro to Racing, coach discretion to move up levels
  • Capable of paddling ~5KM outside of Alder Bay in a sprint boat without falling in

Dates and Practice Times

Fall/Winter

  • Saturday – 11:00am-12:30pm – Canoe/Kayak Paddle
  • Individualized weight plan
  • 1x/wk group fitness (not included in program fee)

Spring/Summer

  • Tuesday – 6:00-7:30pm – Canoe/Kayak Paddle
  • Saturday – 10:30am-12:30pm – Canoe/Kayak Paddle

Things to Bring to Practice

  • Paddling shoes/sandals for walking around from the boat shed to the dock
  • Paddling clothes appropriate for the weather
  • Additional clothes for changing into afterwards
  • A towel
  • Water bottle
  • Your own PFD (or you can borrow one from the club)

Meetup

  • Please try and arrive 10 min prior to practice time ready to go in your paddling gear so that we can start right on time.
