False Creek Racing Canoe Club

Founded in 1985, False Creek Racing Canoe Club (FCRCC), is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary Vancouver paddling club.  We are a diverse, inclusive “Community” of paddlers from 6 to 90+, from all backgrounds and all ranges of ability. Our paddlers race at all competitive levels, locally, nationally, and internationally.

We are a centre of excellence for all our competitive paddling disciplines, recognized world-wide as the place to train, compete, and succeed.

Mission Statement

To continue to foster and support paddling athletes of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to excel.

FCRCC has 5 paddling disciplines

The club has significant boat resources in each discipline that paddlers can access with their membership.

 

 

FCRCC is largely volunteer run with two full time staff for daily operation delivery.

Executive Positions

(President)

  • Provides leadership to achieve the Club’s strategic goals
  • Chairs the Executive meetings
  • Liaises with key external stakeholders (such as CMHC & FCCA)
  • Works on long term vision of club
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies

(Vice President)

  • Manages the paid staff
  • Liaises with FCCA
  • Oversees programming
  • Liaises with the Disciplines as necessary
  • Signing officer
  • Liaises with and represents any Standing Sub-Committees at FCRCC Board Meetings
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies
  • Has custody of the funds and securities of the Club

  • Keeps full and accurate accounts of all assets, liabilities, receipts and disbursements of the Club in the books belonging to the Club
  • Deposits all monies, securities and other valuable effects in the name and to the credit of the Club in such chartered bank or trust company, or, in the case of securities, in such registered dealer in securities as may be designated by the Executive from time to time
  • Disburses the funds of the Club as may be directed by proper authority taking proper vouchers for such disbursements
  • Renders to the Commodore and other Executives at the regular meeting of the Executive, or whenever they may require it, an accounting of all the transactions and a statement of the financial position, of the Club; and
  • Performs such other duties as may from time to time be directed by the Executive
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies
  • Conducts the correspondence of the Club in a timely fashion
  • Issues notices of meetings of the Club and Directors in a timely fashion
  • Keeps minutes of all meetings of the Club and Directors
  • Has custody of all records and documents of the Club except those required to be kept by the Treasurer
  • Has custody of the common seal of the Club
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies
  • Communicates with all paddling disciplines in order to give accurate and timely notifications of any and all club activities from program, local events to national and international events
  • Communicates information to the membership by email, web, or other means
  • Communicates with media regarding major Club events
  • Manages content on the Club’s web site under the direction of Club Administrator
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies
  • Chairs the Purchasing Committee, which provides advice on the sourcing of equipment to meet current and future needs for the disciplines
  • Manages the repair and maintenance of the fleet in coordination with the discipline representatives and the Purchasing Committee
  • Gets approval for financial expenditures
  • Reports to Club Administrator on availability of club boat fleets (dragon boats, outriggers, marathon canoes, surfskis, coach boats)
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies
  • Coordinates a committee of representatives of all Outrigger teams and programs training out of FCRCC
  • This committee will come together to address their plans, any issues and needs
  • Reports on the status of the discipline and associated programs
  • Updates on regattas, races, fundraising
  • Communicates what is needed, wanted, etc. for the discipline to the Executive
  • Co-ordinates all related work projects – e.g., new fleet purchase/replacement, work parties
  • Coordinates and plans drivers for boats.
  • Co-ordinates boat assignments for races and arranges boat transport
  • Provides information to the Club Administrator to update the web site for Outrigger matters
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies
  • Coordinates a committee of representatives of all Dragonboat teams training out of FCRCC
  • This committee will come together to address their plans, any issues, and needs
  • Reports on the status of the discipline and associated programs
  • Updates on regattas, races, fundraising
  • Communicates what is needed, wanted, etc., for the discipline to the Executive
  • Co-ordinates all related work projects – e.g., cleaning boats, etc.
  • Co-ordinates the introductory Dragonboat school and corporate sessions
  • Co-ordinates dragon boat teams for the use of other discipline boats (e.g. outriggers, flatwater)
  • Provides information to the Club Administrator to update the web site for Dragon Boat matters
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies

(includes sprint canoes, kayaks, war canoe)

  • Coordinates a committee of representatives of all flatwater teams and programs training out of FCRCC
  • This committee will come together to address their plans, any issues, and needs
  • Reports on the status of the discipline and associated programs
  • Updates on regattas, races, fundraising
  • Communicates what is needed, wanted, etc. for the discipline to the Executive
  • Liaises with Canoe Kayak BC and coordinates with administration
  • Coordinates all related work projects – e.g., new fleet purchase/ replacement and reports to executive and treasurer (for approval)
  • Provides information to the Club Administrator to update the web site for Flatwater matters
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies
  • Develops goals and a plan for raising money
  • Refines that plan to adopt strategies and campaigns that reflect the ideals of the club
  • Identifies and explores donor pools
  • Personally handles VIP donors
  • Participates, if needed, in conjunction with the Club Administrator and the grant writer in grant proposals and managing endowments with the FCRCC staff
  • Plans and manages marketing efforts like direct mail campaigns
  • Plans fundraising events such as dinners, receptions, and parties
  • Develops alliances with other clubs and organizations
  • Works collaboratively to enhance fundraising efforts
  • Keeps in contact with the board, apprising them of fundraising successes
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies
  • Advises the club on the requirements, policies, and procedures for all aspects of safety
  • Performs risk assessments for all locations where the club operates and acts as the first point of contact for club members with concerns over all safety matters
  • Promotes good safety practices within the club and make members aware of club policies in this area
  • Meets and gives input on all decisions made for general club issues and strategies

Each year the BC Community Gaming Grants program distributes $140 million.

Recipients are more than 5,000 community organizations throughout BC.

False Creek Community Centre

FCRCC Membership includes use of the FCCC’s facilities, including the change rooms, lockers, showers and saunas.

Fitness Center Discount

The False Creek Community Centre has an excellent fitness facility FCRCC members qualify for reduced pricing when using the facility. Please check with the FCCC front desk for current “Corporate Rate” pricing.
